Medu Ya Afrika (Roots of Afrika) was established as a community organization based in the inner city of Pretoria and Johannesburg.
Medu (registered as a Non-Profit Company) is committed to bringing change in and across communities.
It addresses the social ills and injustices brought about by youth unemployment, poverty,gender based violence and the HIV & AIDS epidemic.
It is committed to these issues by creating programmes for vulnerable women,children, men and the youth.

Working alongside government departments and companies and through outreach programmes,support groups,drop-in centres, skills training and capacity building,the organization will empower,educate and support casualties of poverty,unemployment, gender-based violence and those infected or affected by HIV.
Through these attempts Medu intends to reduce the impact of the abovementioned social ills.

Medu will become well-known for its broad partnerships,networks and working
collaboratively with diverse stakeholders,to ensure socio economic justice for the most vulnerable.

The approach of Medu is centered around compassion,empathy and justice. As much as it is important to care for those who are vulnerable and marginalized in society,the issues that are at the root of it should be addressed.

Medu intends to help break the vicious cycles of victimisation, poverty and abuse for thousands of women,men,children and youth.
Medu is an inner city,grassroots,community organisation.It is committed to socially
inclusive change in the city and its most vulnerable.

Through its holistic and diverse care programmes,it will address the causes of vulnerability and marginalization and will work towards healthy and vibrant societies.To be able to do this,there will be an engagement of diverse stakeholders at different levels.
